The Department of Global and Environmental Health at the School of Global Public Health, New York University, is seeking applicants for a fully-funded Postdoctoral Researcher position, to lead research across a portfolio of projects related to epidemiological and economic modelling of vaccination against diseases such as human papillomavirus (HPV) and invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS).

New York University (NYU) is among the highest-ranked private universities in the United States. The Department of Global and Environmental Health is a recently established department in the School that is undergoing rapid expansion. Its growing faculty includes eight full-time members who are world leaders in geospatial modelling, infectious disease modelling, economic evaluation and implementation research, the health impact of climate change and environmental pollution, urban health, global health policy and public health entrepreneurship. The Department recently appointed Dr. Mark Jit as its first long-term chair, and this position was created from his research grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Wellcome Trust.

  • The postholder will be responsible for outputs that have the potential to directly inform global (e.g. by the World Health Organization), regional and national vaccine policy-making.
  • The successful candidate will have publication, professional development and global health networking opportunities to prepare them for faculty positions in infectious disease modelling at top universities globally. They will also be part of a growing department that may be creating tenure-track faculty positions in the coming years. The position carries funding to support conference travel, publication fees, meetings with collaborators, and other research-related expenses. The initial appointment is fully funded until Dec 31, 2026, and is renewable subject to satisfactory progress and availability of funding.

NYU has an extensive global network of teaching and research sites throughout the world. These sites include three portal campuses and 11 global academic centers in Africa, South America, China, Australia, Europe and the Middle East. This unique arrangement allows researchers truly unique opportunities to engage in their research and study around the world; and inform public health practice both locally and globally through the exchange of knowledge.

Candidates are expected to have:

  • A doctoral degree (ideally PhD/DPhil) in a quantitative subject
  • Experience in epidemiological, economic or other types of mathematical modeling relevant to health conditions.
  • Candidates with experience in infectious disease modeling and/or economic evaluation of infectious disease interventions are of particular interest.
