Purpose

The Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering is hiring multiple postdoctoral fellows for a specific project related to advanced electronics packaging, nanoscale additive manufacturing, metasurface optics, precision machine design, and computational modeling. Each postdoctoral position is considered a temporary training position that may be renewed annually, for a maximum of five years, based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and the continuation of funding.

Responsibilities

  • Performing experiments, analyzing data, optomechanical design, and/or computational modeling.
  • Writing reports and giving oral presentations on results of experiments for sponsors
  • Help manage undergraduate and graduate students working on related projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, electrical engineering, computational engineering, or related field received within the past 3 years.
  • Demonstrated experience in materials testing and mechanical engineering.
  • Experience or familiarity with one of the following data collection and computational modeling.
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional, and varied teams.
  • Ability to manage and lead external engagement and collaboration on projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: electronics packaging, FEA modeling, interface modeling, precision machine design, optomechanical design, metasurface optics, materials chemistry, additive manufacturing, nanomaterials.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, along with a demonstrable ability to reach a variety of audiences in academia, industry, and government.

Salary

$65,000

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
