This position has a salary of $60,000 and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Location – This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.

The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta with over 250 academic faculty members and over 400 trainees (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and residents).The Department of Medicine’s core mission is to undertake outstanding education, research and high-quality clinical care to provide the best possible health outcomes for Albertans. Position Summary

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position to advance research in caregiver health interventions. This role offers an opportunity for a motivated researcher with expertise in caregiver-based research and clinical trials to contribute to studies aimed at improving caregiver well-being through digital health interventions.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team led by Dr. Puneeta Tandon and Dr. Ashley Hyde, with a strong track record in clinical trials evaluating patient-centered digital health interventions. Our lab includes multiple research assistants, PhD, MSc, and postdoctoral fellows, and provides the opportunity to collaborate with a large team of highly accomplished health professionals. This position offers:

  • A unique opportunity to join a large caregiver digital health project at its inception, contributing to study design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Hands-on experience with qualitative and quantitative research, clinical trials, and digital health projects.
  • The ability to work closely with caregiver populations and partner organizations, ensuring interventions are patient- and family-centered.
  • Career development support, including grant writing, student supervision, conference presentations, and research funding applications.
  • collaborative and supportive research environment, working on high-impact studies aimed at improving caregiver health.

Duties 

  • Design and evaluate caregiver-focused health interventions based on evidence-based frameworks.
  • Conduct qualitative research to explore caregiver needs and wants for an intervention and to evaluate caregiver experiences, barriers, and facilitators of engagement with digital health programs.
  • Support clinical trial rollout to assess the effectiveness of a digital health interventions for caregivers.
  • Develop strategies to improve equitable access to digital health tools for caregivers, particularly in underserved populations.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team inclusive of caregiver advisors to publish high-quality manuscripts and apply for research funding.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data using advanced methods to evaluate effectiveness and inform future intervention development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD (completed within the last 3 years or near completion) in Public Health, Health Sciences, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience with caregiver-focused research or health interventions.
  • Proficiency in qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis) and software such as NVivo.
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams, including patient/caregiver organizations.
  • Excellent scientific writing skills, with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to manage multiple research projects.
  • A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in research and healthcare innovation.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with digital health interventions, including app-based or wearable solutions, is an asset.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills (e.g., R, Python, SPSS) is an asset.
