About the position

The position is based at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Roads, Railways and Transport. The department has a good working environment, nice office space and good working conditions. 

The position will be a key employee in the FRESH project, which builds knowledge about transport in connection with purchasing, both shipping goods to customers and shopping trips carried out by private individuals. Online shopping has increased significantly in recent years and is likely to affect purchasing habits and trips, as well as the fact that we receive deliveries of goods to other places and times than before. The impact of online shopping on transport patterns will be investigated. The Fresh project will also establish a build-up on the existing transport model. This will show the current demand for travel, but also how different measures; transport solutions, delivery solutions and pricing, affect demand in the future.

The project is being carried out in collaboration with a German and a French university. The working languages ​​are English and Norwegian.

Your immediate supervisor is a professor of Transport.

Job duties

  • Administration tasks, such as contacting and following up with local and international partners
  • Participate in meetings internally, locally and with other partners
  • Disseminate results from the project at conferences and national meetings and seminars, write articles in popular science and academic journals
  • Carry out research tasks in the project, including data collection, data processing and analysis, as well as coding and adaptation in a transport model, and then analyses of various measures

Contribute to other project-internal activities

Qualification requirements

  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctorate in  Transport or an equivalent foreign doctorate that is considered equivalent to a Norwegian doctorate.
  • If you are in the final stages of your doctoral degree and can document that your thesis has been submitted or that the defense date has been confirmed, your application may be considered even if you have not defended your thesis.
  • Documentation of your doctoral degree must be presented before you can take up the position. 
  • Good oral and written presentation skills at Norwegian/Scandinavian equivalent level B2
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English equivalent to level B2

As a result of the new Higher Education Act and associated regulations of 01.08.2024, NTNU has chosen to use the employment conditions in the old  regulations of 31 January 2006 no. 102 on employment conditions for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, research fellow, research assistant and specialist candidate during a transitional period ( for decisions on appointments in recruitment positions before 1 August 2025).

  • Experience with surveys, including recruitment, washing, weighting, analysis and software for creating questionnaires

Salary and conditions 

In the position of postdoctoral researcher code 1352, you will normally be paid a gross salary of NOK 594,500 per year depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the Norwegian State Pension Fund will be deducted from your salary.

The employment period is 3 years.

As an employee at NTNU, it is important to stay up to date on academic and organizational changes and adapt to them.

For necessary interaction academically and socially, it is a prerequisite that you are physically present and available to the institution on a daily basis. A home office may be possible after agreement with your immediate manager.

About the application

  • Transcripts and diplomas for bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as a completed doctorate. If you have not completed your doctorate, you must submit confirmation that your thesis has been submitted, or document the planned date of your public defense. Documentation of a completed doctorate must be presented before taking up the position.
  • CV
  • A copy of your doctoral thesis. If you are in the final stages, you can attach a draft of the thesis. 
  • Publications or other relevant research work (max. 5 works) 
  • Certificates
  • Names and contact information of three relevant references

If all or part of your education was taken abroad, we ask that you also attach documentation of the scope and quality of your entire education. A description of what documentation is required can be found  here . If you already have a statement from  HK-dir , it is a good idea to attach that as well.  

We take into account work you have done together with others. If it is difficult to identify your contribution to the joint work, you must attach a brief account of your participation.

If you have had a leave of absence or other break in your career, it is important that this is stated in your application so that the selection committee can take this into account and that the amount of your research may have been reduced as a result.
