The Institute of Parasitology is a joint institute of the Veterinary (Vetsuisse) and the Medical faculty of the University of Zurich. The Veterinary Parasitology Unit is embedded within the institute of Parasitology, which consists of several further research units (malaria research, vector entomology, molecular parasitology, zoonoses and translational research). The Veterinary Parasitology Unit focuses on epidemiological, pathological and pathophysiological processes inducing parasitic diseases, and the interaction between parasites and their hosts using in vivo and in vitro models. A postdoc position is available in our dynamic research group focusing on parasite infections in different animal species.

Your responsibilities
- The candidate is expected to develop an innovative and internationally competitive research programme on helminthology, complementing ongoing research activities
- The candidate can develop and apply state-of-the art immunological and multi-omics analyses (e.g., nemabiome in livestock) to advance our understanding of parasitic diseases and their management
- With his/her expertise, the candidate will support further research projects in vector (arthropod) associated diseases and protozoal research
- The candidate will contribute to educational activities at undergraduate and postgraduate level in veterinary medicine
- The candidate is expected to support the advisory service and collaborate with the diagnostic parasitology unit of the Institute
Your profile
- Successful applicants should have a strong goal of pursuing a research career and a strong background in Veterinary Parasitology.
- The applicant should hold both a degree in veterinary medicine (DVM) and a PhD degree, and ideally the title as a Diplomate of the European Veterinary Parasitology College (or comparable).
- Applicants with experimental experience in parasitology research will be given preference.
- The candidate is proficient in German language (minimally B2).
- The applicant should also have a solid scientific writing experience and excellent written and spoken English skills.
- The applicant has excellent communication skills and can work both independently and in a team.
- The applicant collaborates with other units in the Institute and with researchers across the research groups to develop synergistic research lines.
