Job description
We are looking for one (1) Postdoctoral Research Fellow in imaging technology, machine learning, signal processing, neural networks and computer vision. The work will be related to apply the advance imaging technology for the onboard monitoring of wheel and track contact conditions, including contact profile geometries and positions. Both senior researchers and fresh doctors with strong background imaging technology, machine learning, signal processing, neural networks and computer vision are encouraged to apply.
The results of your research will be disseminated in scientific peer-reviewed journals, international conferences, doctoral network events and events with industry. In addition, activities include supervision of PhD / MSc students, preparation of grants and support of the general activities of the research labs.
Requirements
We seek a motivated and self-guided person with strong theoretical background who is interested in applying advance imaging technology into mechanical engineering, especially railway engineering applications. If you have background in mechanical engineering, it will be a plus for this position.
You should have a PhD degree in a relevant field. We expect a competence to pursue independent scientific work and adequate teaching skills. You should be fluent in spoken and written English.
We offer
The position will be offered for a fixed-term period of 2 years. The starting date is 1 January 2025 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six (6) months applies to all our new employees.
In this project, you are going to collaborate with experts from TAU Imaging Research Platform. A full-scale wheel-rail lab will be designed and constructed according to your need. We have good connections to railway industry, which means your developed technology will have the opportunity to be tested on the real train.

Salary
The salary will be based on both the job demand level and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of the Postdoctoral Research Fellow is placed on the job demand level 5-6. In addition, employees will receive performance-based salary. Therefore, typically, Postdoctoral Research Fellow´s salary varies between 3700 Euro – 4500 Euro.
