The Sangwan lab located in the Department of Pharmacology in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow to join our growing team. The Sangwan lab focuses on stress signaling pathways with a focus on using cryoEM, X-ray crystallography, and computational drug design to develop next-generation therapeutics.

The postdoctoral fellow will utilize single-particle cryoEM and cryo-electron tomography to study protein complexes involved in protein quality control in mammalian cells. The Sangwan lab located in Downtown Chicago has access to the Structural Biology Facility at Evanston campus which has a Glacios Cryo TEM equipped with 200kV field emission gun and a Gatan K3 Direct Electron Detector, a JEOL 1400 120 kV for routine sample inspection, a Cressington 308R carbon coater and thickness monitor used to make carbon support films for TEM samples and a Solarus Plasma Cleaner.

In addition, a Glacios-2 cryo-TEM (200 kV) equipped with a bright XFEG electron source, Selectris energy filter and Falcon 4i direct electron detection camera, and software/hardware for fringe-free imaging to allow rapid single-particle and tomography data collection will be installed at the Feinberg School of Medicine in Downtown Chicago in Fall 2024.

Prior experience in single-particle cryoEM is highly desired although training in cryoEM sample preparation, data collection and data processing will be provided.

Qualifications:

  1. PhD in Structural Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry or related fields
  2. Proficient in protein biochemistry such as recombinant protein production and purification, protein-protein interaction assays and mammalian cell culture.
  3. Evidence of scholarly activity in the form of publications.
  4. Experience in CryoEM and computational modeling is preferred.

Interested applicants can email Dr. Smriti Sangwan (smriti.sangwan@northwestern.edu) with a brief description of their research experience, current and future career plans, CV, and contact information of three references.
