The research group of prof. Guy Meynants focusses on the development of low noise and radiation hardened CMOS image sensors. The group is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on several ongoing research projects on topics like low noise pixel design and radiation tolerant image sensors. The research group is part of the ADVISE research division at KU Leuven Campus Geel. This division has a strong experience in radiation hardened analog and digital CMOS circuits and CMOS sensors. Its mission is to develop circuits and design techniques to withstand the effects of radiation. This includes device and performance degradation effects due to total ionizing dose and single-event effects. The group has built up experience in this field on a broad variety of CMOS circuits, like RF and signal processing circuits, memories, power management and image sensors and collaborates with large research institutes like CERN on this field. The division also operates a state-of-the-art lab facility for characterisation of devices during and after radiation.
Responsibilities
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will contribute to several projects to improve radiation tolerance and reduce temporal noise of CMOS image sensors.  Together with the supervisor (prof. Meynants), you will guide PhD researchers in image sensor design and characterization and contribute to funding proposals in this field. Image sensors is a multi-disciplinary field which involves analog IC design, semiconductor device physics, optics and electromagnetic waves, and characterization skills. You also review the design work of the researchers, promote teamwork, and propose efforts for re-use and standardization of design work. You will also be involved in guiding students during their Master’s thesis projects or other project works, and a limited amount of teaching (e.g. on excercise or lab sessions)

Profile

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with the following qualifications:

  • A background in electronic engineering, microelectronics, computer science or physics with a proven experience in microelectronic design and research
  • Experience with EDA design tools for IC design and/or TCAD tools for device and process simulations
  • A PhD degree in electronics or device physics (or PhD graduation in the next year)
  • Experience with image sensor design or research is a plus
  • Social, enthusiastic and result-driven team player
  • Good communication skills, proficient in English, both orally and in writing

Offer

We offer you a full-time postdoctoral position in a world-class image sensor research team at KU Leuven, with the following opportunities:

  • Develop your knowledge on image sensor chip design
  • Design integrated circuits in state-of-the-art advanced CMOS and image sensor processes
  • Work together with world class experts on the fields of CMOS image sensors and radiation tolerant CMOS circuits
  • We offer you a temporary assignment of 1 year with the possibility of extension (to max. 6 years).
  • Anticipated start date is Summer 2025 (with flexibility)
