POSITION DESCRIPTION

The van Dam laboratory in the Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging at the University of California, Los Angeles is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to join our multidisciplinary research program, which focuses on the development of innovative microscale chemical synthesis platforms for preparing radiolabeled compounds for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Radiochemistry based on droplet-scale reactions offers numerous key advantages over conventional macroscale radiochemistry techniques.

The candidate will work on a novel high-throughput radiochemistry platform that we are developing, that uses robotics in combination with arrays of parallel droplet reactions to accelerate radiosynthesis optimization and radiopharmaceutical screening.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or chemical engineering and be comfortable with mechanical system design, CAD (e.g. SolidWorks), electronics, microcontrollers, system integration, and computer programming. Prior experience in radiochemistry, microfluidics, optics, radiation detection, analytical chemistry techniques (e.g. HPLC, TLC), or the development and use of radiochemistry equipment would be especially advantageous, but is not required, and can be introduced to the candidate through hands-on experience.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and systematic, and will possess excellent critical thinking, experiment planning, and communication (oral and written) skills.

Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research, and contact information for three references.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by level of experience at appointment. See Table 23. The minimum salary rate for this position is $64,480.
