Are you an enthusiastic and motivated researcher with an interest in developing non-invasive drug-delivery?
We are now looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our Department of Clinical Geriatrics, where you will have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research and development.
Division
The Division of Clinical geriatrics consists of about 100 employees and affiliates. Division of Clinical Geriatrics consists of a multi-disciplinary team at the forefront of translational Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research using cutting-edge technology with aims to develop new diagnostic biomarkers and new treatment strategies in Alzheimer´s disease.
Duties
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist to join our multi-disciplinary team at the forefront of translational Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research. Our group specializes in therapeutic applications targeting cholinergic pathways, primarily using Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) via encapsulated cell (EC Biodelivery) or cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEI’s). We aim to explore advanced techniques for non-invasive NGF delivery to the brain, employing in-vitro, ex-vivo, and preclinical animal models to develop and verify various delivery formulations.
The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in biological/biomedical/chemical sciences, with experience in nano formulation for drug delivery including development of formulations and characterization methods (e.g., DLS, FTIR, TEM, SEM, XRD, drug-release). Proficiency in in-vitro cell culture systems and in-vivo mice models is essential. Additional experience in HPLC, histological evaluation, fluorescence microscopy, western blotting, and ELISA are highly valued. The candidate should have a strong interest in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, and a proven record of high-quality scientific research and publications. Excellent verbal and written English skills and the ability to write and apply for grants are required.
Entry requirements
Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their postdoctoral research in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Here, we conduct innovative medical research and provide the largest range of biomedical education in Sweden. At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research. Students and employees have free access to our modern gym facilities with trained staff on site.
Location: NEO-building, Karolinska Institutet, the dept of Neurobiology, care sciences and society (NVS), division of Clinical geriatrics, Campus syd, Huddinge
Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
- A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
The Division of Clinical Geriatric, with over 100 employed and affiliated researchers are located both in Neo, Campus Flemingsberg and in the Q-building in Solna. We conduct research focusing on cognitive impairment, dementia, and other aging related disorders, and education, among other medical graduates. Our research is multi-faceted and is in close collaboration with leading institutions and clinics worldwide. The research is clinically oriented with an emphasis on diagnosis, prevention and treatment. The division has a close cooperation with the Medical Unit Aging within Theme Inflammation and Aging at Karolinska University Hospital.
