About the role
This Research Associate and Research Group Manager role offers a unique and transformative experience in contributing towards the strategic growth and day-to-day running of a multidisciplinary world-leading research group. In this role you will be contributing to the activities and management of research projects across areas including artificial cells, microfluidics and biomembrane engineering undertaken by members of the Ces laboratory, based within the world-leading Membrane Biophysics Group.
What you would be doing
You will carry out research within the group of Prof Oscar Ces at the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London, contributing to projects in artificial cell science, microfluidics, biomembrane engineering, soft condensed matter and chemical biology, as well as translation of emerging technologies from the laboratory. The post is targeted at applicants with an excellent background in artificial cells (using bottom-up approaches), membrane biophysics, microscopy and the application of microfluidics to biomembrane engineering.
Prof Ces is currently Head of the Department of Chemistry and you will be expected to assist in the day-to-day running and the charting of the strategic growth and direction of his research group including: supervision of postgraduate and undergraduate project students, co-managing and developing collaborations, kick-starting new research programmes, submission of publications and grant applications and recruitment, There will also be the opportunity to contribute to undergraduate teaching in the Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to gain the experience needed to pursue a long-term career in academia.
The holder of this post will be based within the Membrane Biophysics Group at the Chemistry Department at Imperial College which comprises ca. 55 permanent academic staff. The Department has a worldwide reputation for excellence in both research and teaching and is housed in the state of the art £170M research facility, the Molecular Sciences Research Hub at the Imperial College White City campus. This campus is at the heart of the wider White City Innovation District, which interfaces academic research, start-ups, industry and medicine, acting as an internationally unique environment to conduct world-leading scientific research.
What we are looking for
- Candidates with an excellent background in artificial cells (using bottom-up approaches), membrane biophysics, microscopy and the application of microfluidics to biomembrane engineering.
- Candidates who hold a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Biology, Bioengineering or related disciplines.
- Candidates with experience of multidisciplinary research including working at the Chemistry – Biology interface.
