Follow us for daily updates

The Cancer and Pregnancy research group, led by Prof. Frédéric Amant and Prof. Kristel Van Calsteren, has built up an excellent reputation worldwide through the established ‘International Network on Cancer, Infertility and Pregnancy’ (INCIP) (see also http://www.kankerenzwangerschap.be and www.cancerinpregnancy.org). The research group is active within the department of gynaecology-obstetrics of UZ Leuven/KU Leuven and the AVL/NKI in Amsterdam. It is a multidisciplinary team consisting of physicians, (bio)engineers, biomedical scientists, psychologists and a research associate. There is also close collaboration with other physicians from abroad who have a special interest in cancer during pregnancy. With an international approach, we want to optimise the treatment of pregnant women with cancer and map the possible consequences of cancer and treatment during pregnancy on the development of the child.

Function

A key part of our research is the neuropsychological follow-up of children exposed to cancer therapies during pregnancy. Your research will build on this and specifically focus on the impact of cancer treatments during pregnancy on the development of these children.

Profile

  • You have a Master’s degree in Psychology or equivalent through experience, with a strong interest in neuropsychology and scientific research.
  • You have experience or an affinity with psychodiagnostic/neuropsychological research (e.g. IQ tests, Bayley, ANT, AVLT, CBCL, …).
  • You have a good knowledge of statistics. Experience with statistical programs (R, SPSS, MATLAB, …) is an added value.
  • You have sufficient command of Dutch and French to administer neuropsychological tests and an excellent knowledge of scientific English.
  • You are good at dealing with children from 18 months to 18 years and are prepared to perform neuropsychological tests on this target group.
  • You work independently and accurately, but also function well within a team.
  • You are prepared to think constructively about the projects of your fellow researchers outside of your research . You have an active and critical input in the weekly team meetings .

Offer

  • We offer a full-time employment with immediate effect for a period of 1 year, with the prospect of further extension and growth within the project. In case of extension there is a possibility to further develop your research into a PhD trajectory.
  • You will be admitted to the Cancer and Pregnancy research group. You will work in a unique multidisciplinary environment in UZ Leuven, PMC Utrecht and AVL/NKI Amsterdam.
  • You can build an international network through your frequent contacts with the members of the INCIP.
