We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Scientist to join our team, focusing on the validation of observations from fragment-based drug discovery screens using CRISPR and RNA interference in cancer models. The Research Scientist will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of potential cancer drug targets identified through fragment-based drug discovery screens and chemical proteomics. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to translational research and the development of novel therapies for cancer treatment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Validation of Drug Targets:
    • Design and execute CRISPR and RNA interference screening experiments to validate observations from fragment-based drug discovery screens.
    • Utilize molecular biology techniques to assess the impact of gene modulation on cancer cell behavior and response to potential drug candidates.
    • Utilize publicly available databases to provide additional data sets
  2. Experimental Design and Optimization:
    • Develop and optimize protocols for CRISPR and RNA interference experiments tailored to specific drug targets.
    • Collaborate with oncologists, medicinal chemists and cancer biologists to ensure the relevance of screening assays.
  3. Data Analysis and Interpretation:
    • Analyze and interpret screening data to validate the relevance of identified drug targets.
    • Collaborate with bioinformaticians to integrate screening results with other data sets for a comprehensive analysis.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and preclinical development.
    • Present findings at internal meetings, conferences, and contribute to publications.
  5. Cell Line and Model Maintenance:
    • Maintain cancer cell lines and relevant in vivo models for validation experiments.
  6. Instrumentation and Technology:
    • Operate and maintain cutting-edge laboratory equipment and technologies related to CRISPR and RNA interference.
    • Stay abreast of advancements in the field and recommend the integration of new technologies

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Genetics, or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years postdoctoral fellow or post PhD science experience in a relevant field is required.
  • Proven expertise in CRISPR and RNA interference screening, particularly in the context of cancer biology.
  • Strong molecular biology skills, including gene editing, nucleic acid isolation, and analysis.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae to Eric.Haura@moffitt.org. Please include “Research Scientist – Validation of Drug Targets” in the subject line.
