Job Description Summary
The Carman Li laboratory in the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Pennsylvania is hiring a Research Specialist. The Li lab studies the molecular mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities of hereditary cancers, particularly BRCA1/2 breast cancers, with the goal of improving patient outcomes. We use advanced methodologies, including genetically engineered mouse models, organoid cultures, patient samples, and single-cell omics. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge cancer research. Former trainees mentored by Dr. Li have earned publication authorship and successfully transitioned to graduate/medical schools and industry positions. Successful candidates will have a strong background in biology, be highly motivated, and have excellent organizational skills. Responsibilities include managing daily lab operations and contributing to research projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage lab operations (including ordering, inventory, organization, and maintenance of equipment and reagents) and develop protocols for research and regulatory compliance (e.g. animal protocols, bio-safety protocols, etc.).
- Contribute to research projects, including:
- Mouse Work (e.g. husbandry, genotyping, experiments, sample collection and analyses)
- Cell and organoid cultures
- Molecular, cell, and tissue analyses (DNA cloning, CRISPER/RNAi gene pertur bation, RNA and protein analysis, flow cytometry, histology)
- Develops relationships with research partners, research sites, sales representatives, regulatory offices, and affiliated organizations as part of laboratory management
- Train and supervise staff, interface with existing postdoctoral fellows and students in the laboratory
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Experience in one or more of the following is required: lab management, mouse models of cancer, cell/organoid culture.
- Highly motivated, have a good work ethic, and work independently and as a team.
- Follow protocols with attention to detail.
- Produce accurate and high-quality work.
- Think creatively to solve problems.
- Excellent skills in communication, organization, and time management.
