Summary

The lab is currently seeking a talented Research Technician to join the Rios Lab in the Center for Advanced Innate Cell Therapy within the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center. This technician will work as part of a highly talented team of immunologists and synthetic biologists to help develop new treatments for multiple pediatric cancers using cutting-edge technology. They will provide a supportive yet stimulating environment with opportunity for mentorship and professional growth. The lab focuses on research in cancer immunology and immunotherapy by performing a variety of techniques that includes molecular biology, genetics, synthetic biology and next-generation sequencing.

Job Duties

  • Assists with immunology and molecular biology experiments and general lab organization.
  • Applies molecular biology techniques that includes PCR, qPCR, cloning, isothermal assembly, Golden Gate assembly and gel electrophoresis to create constructs to be tested for cancer immunotherapy.
  • Applies immunology techniques that includes cell culture, retrovirus production, T cell transduction, flow cytometry and FACS, to test novel constructs for cancer immunotherapy.
  • Helps to order reagents needed for experiments as well as maintain lab stocked and organized.
  • Maintains online laboratory notebook, helps organize bench space.
  • Assists in preparation of cell culture media stock reagents and participates in weekly lab meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of relevant experience in immunology or molecular biology.
  • Experience with primary T cell culture, flow cytometry, strict aseptic technique, retrovirus production and transduction.
  • Experience with cloning (restriction enzyme, isothermal, Golden Gate), PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, NGS library prep, cell culture.
  • Be highly motivated and ambitious, organized and anticipate problems, eager to take ownership of projects, and willing to work with collaborators in a team.
