The position is situated in the 3D Media Group, which is part of the Computing Sciences Unit within the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences (ITC). The Group investigates methods for capture, processing and display of 3D visual data based on extensive knowledge about the human perception of colour, motion, and depth and the corresponding visual cues. By employing advanced signal processing methods, the Group tackles specific problems related to the huge amount of data to be processed and the optimal way of visualization using state-of-the-art immersive (highly realistic and naturally intuitive) displays.

The 3D Media Group utilizes the facilities of CIVIT, the Centre for Immersive Visual Technologies, which is a nation-wide research infrastructure unit within ITC. CIVIT provides equipment and expertise in the areas of visual content creation, representation of visual data, and immersive displays with the aim to support academic and industry-driven research and student projects. CIVIT has active collaboration with innovative companies, talented students, and researchers.

CIVIT is an exciting place to work and do research, due to the unique futuristic atmosphere created by modern and emerging immersive imaging devices and gadgets. Likewise, the CIVIT and 3D Media teams are enthusiastic, supportive, and multicultural, also offering freedom for independent and creative work.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are now looking for an imaging expert to conduct research work in the fields of colour science, imaging and image quality assessment and contribute to developing the new CIVIT lab facilities related with spectral response measurements of imaging sensors, profiling of imaging systems, and image quality assessment. As a researcher, you will be part of the 3D Media Group that investigates methods for capture, processing and display of multidimensional visual data based on extensive knowledge about the human perception of colour, motion, and depth and the corresponding visual cues. Your involvement with the CIVIT team will expose you to various research communities, both from the academia and industry. You will be responsible for designing new image processing methods and algorithms in the above field of research. These will be further implemented in new processing pipelines for performing lab experiments and measurements, analysing data, and reporting results.

Your tasks include:

•    Perform state of the art overview of the field of colour science and its impact and utilization in modern imaging

•    Utilize and further develop existing methods and algorithms for automatic  camera spectral response measurement and processing, as well as for objective and perceptually-driven image quality assessment

•    Develop computational imaging pipelines for color profiling of imaging devices and image quality assessment, including hardware and software integration

•    Measure and profile imaging sensors with spectral response measurement and image quality assessment systems

•    Develop methods for analysing the data obtained from the measurements

•    Develop practices for best utilization of equipment in R&D and teaching

REQUIREMENTS

A successful candidate has strong imaging background and related experience in designing methods and algorithms for image quality assessment. The position is a good fit for an enthusiastic, creative, and research-goal-oriented person.
