The University of Arizona’s Department of Pharmacology has an immediate opening for a full-time Research Scientist III to work on projects within the Center of Excellence in Addiction Studies (CEAS). The Research Scientist III will conduct high-level research in a laboratory setting, including designing, organizing, managing, and carrying out experiments. This role requires extensive experience in laboratory research, along with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to communicate research findings effectively, both orally and in writing. Additionally, the candidate will independently develop and implement new techniques and collaborate with faculty researchers on complex research projects, including grant proposal preparation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Formulate and develop lab methods for new techniques, ensuring regulatory compliance. Perform complex laboratory work with responsibility for the independent development of methods and procedures.
- Collaborate with faculty researchers, acting independently in the design of research projects, preparation of research proposals, and planning for project startups and grant submissions. Design, perform, and interpret experiments outlined in the grant proposal.
- Perform administrative tasks related to research objectives, including developing and monitoring project budgets, authorizing expenditures, and managing grants. Attend lab meetings, present data, and contribute to discussions on research progress and direction. Contribute to research funding efforts, participating in grant writing and collaborating with other researchers and departments to acquire new funding opportunities.
- Supervise and mentor junior personnel, including graduate and undergraduate students, in performing experiments, data analysis, and general lab duties. Oversee data reduction and analyses, ensuring accuracy and completeness before submission to archives and funding agencies.
- Prepare research results for publication in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and other scientific meetings. Actively participate in the presentation of research at national and international conferences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
