Our team is currently in need of a Reservoir Engineer with strong understanding of fluid flow in porous media to join us in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, integrated research team. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge or some familiarity with prominent workflows in reservoir engineering, various commercial and open source fluid flow simulation packages (including but not limited to CMG, Eclipse, etc.) and be able to contribute to the codes/algorithm development (Python, MATLAB, etc.) in a group of Engineers, Data Scientists, and Geologists. Candidate will be required to upgrade our current CO2 storage capacity estimation tool (EASITOOL) and add new features as needed.

Purpose

GCCC team has developed a CO2 storage capacity tool (last updated in 2023) that has been vastly used by internal and external researchers and needs oversight. This position is designed to find an appropriate candidate that can update our software platform designed for CO2 storage capacity estimation and make this tool useful to current needs of the industry. Candidate will contribute to other reservoir engineering and modeling needs of the GCCC team as needed, this may include working on topics related to reservoir simulation, data analytics, and machine learning.

Responsibilities

  • Research and development in reservoir engineering and code development with focus on application to carbon capture, utilization and storage.
  • Fundraising from state, federal and industry to carry out fundamental and applied research in relevant topics.
  • Public outreach and communication of the results of the research including attending conferences and meetings.

Required Qualifications

The candidate must have:

  • Familiarity with fluid flow modeling
  • Strong understanding of two-phase flow systems
  • Ability to develop professional codes in Python
  • GUI development
  • Proven capacity for innovative, creative scientific analysis
  • PhD in petroleum engineering or related field
  • Proven publication skills and verbal communication skills with a variety of audiences
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively in a group
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines, including engineers, data scientists, and geologists

PhD must have been received within 3 years from date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing software packages
  • Familiarity with fractional flow theory
  • Knowledge of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
  • Broad skills base with deep expertise in certain areas, such as geomechanics, and/or experimental studies, use of HPC
  • Familiarity with AWS services

Salary Range

$65,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions
  • Occasional weekend, overtime, and evening work to meet deadlines
  • Fieldwork as necessary
