Within the Department of Emergency Medicine at UI Hospital and Health Sciences, will act as the Director of Project HEAL. Will oversee and implement Project HEAL’s programs and initiatives; including oversight of all research, grants and administration; and manages the evaluation, strategic planning and dissemination activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Research

  • Oversee all Research and clinical activities of Project HEAL including the development of abstracts, manuscripts, posters, as well as seeking new grant opportunities. Establish procedures to ensure adherence to research protocols and administrative requirements.
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigator and co-investigators to conceptualize and develop research aims and objectives for proposals for competitive grant applications. Will also collaborate with the departments Director of Research and the projects Data Manager for study designs, methodology and analysis.
  • Build and coordinate teams, draft comprehensive IRB protocols/applications and assist with setting up infrastructure needed for conducting the research once funding has been secured.
  • Replicate, refine and add new research approaches based on project needs. Test, customize and implement new methods and procedures.  Monitor study progress to ensure compliance with and adherence to the project plan and to identify, evaluate and rectify problems.
  • Evaluate programs/projects on an ongoing basis for gaps and propose changes to bridge/close intervenable programmatic gaps. • Monitor all metrics of Project HEAL’s programs and initiatives in collaboration with Data Manager and ensure integrity of all data collection tools and project database in REDCap

Communication

  • Contribute material, prepare results and assist in the writing of research findings for publications, papers, presentations, grants, and other documents for publication.
  • Assist Principal Investigator in grant and manuscript submission
  • Actively seek partnerships with Researchers within the College of Medicine and other Health Sciences (School of Public Health, College of Nursing etc.) at UIC
  • Actively explore opportunities for diversification of areas of focus and activities to support research expansion.
  • Maintain and foster existing partnerships with outside organizations (Chicago Department of Health, Gilead, University of Chicago) and departments within UIC (Infectious Disease, Hepatology, Endocrinology, Primary Care)

Staff Management

  • Guide, train and advise lower-level researchers and students on techniques, methods and procedures.
  • Hire, train and manage the Project HEAL team of research staff, helping to ensure staff development.

Strategic Planning 

  • Work with Principal Investigator to develop the Project’s strategic goals and establish a framework to monitor progress towards strategic goals.
  • Ensure effective management of evaluation priorities and workflows across project areas, ongoing quality monitoring of key metrics and reporting to funders and stakeholders.

Administration

  •  
    Lead development and management of project budgets and monitor financial aspects of sponsored projects
    Ensure that all administrative and financial aspects of the initiatives are properly executed and in alignment with UIC’s policies and procedures to allow for appropriate stewardship of project resources
    Oversee data collection, management, analysis and provide timely and accurate reports to Project Principal Investigator and funding agencies

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social science or related field required. Master’s degree in public health or related field preferred.  Master’s degree in one of the following areas preferred: management of information systems, public health, or other data management fields of study.
  • A minimum of five years related research experience, required. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong organization and time management skills, and the ability to manage several concurrent tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and written, with faculty, staff, and outside agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

Public health or related field required.  Master’s degree in public health or related field preferred.
