Purpose
Conduct, manage, and grow basic and applied research programs in defense-related disciplines such as acoustics, signal processing, statistical modeling, and tracking in the Signal and Information Sciences Laboratory (SISL) at ARL:UT.
Responsibilities
- Conduct analysis, modeling, and algorithm development in various disciplines, such as underwater acoustics, wave propagation, signal processing, statistical modeling, information fusion, state estimation, object tracking, and classification.
- Manage research projects and support business development.
- Prototype scientific algorithms for proof of concept, validation, and software implementation. Support performance evaluations and algorithm transition into next-generation production systems.
- Engage in scholarly activities, such as documenting and conveying the results of scientific research to sponsors and the scientific community through briefings, conferences, and peer-reviewed publications, as well as contributing to the peer-review process.
- Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree in physics, math, engineering, computer or information sciences, operations research, or related technical area.
- Experience in scientific algorithm development, modeling, and/or data analysis.
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar abstract language.
- Experience managing research project(s).
- Record of publication in scientific proceedings.
- Dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, highly organized, and capable of coordinating multiple tasks within time constraints.
- Attention to detail, effective problem-solving skills, and sound scientific judgment.
- Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with all audiences.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four or more years of experience in MATLAB, Python, or C++ development, scientific algorithm development, modeling and simulation, and/or scientific data analysis.
- Experience with applied mathematics, physical modeling, underwater acoustics, and/or wave propagation.
- Experience with signal processing, time-frequency analysis, and/or sensing systems.
- Experience with detection, localization, tracking, and/or classification algorithms and applications.
- Experience with uncertainty modeling, state estimation, information fusion, and/or statistics.
- Experience developing in a Linux environment.
- Experience with high-performance, GPU, and/or cloud-computing.
- Proven ability to work independently, formulate research questions, and take initiative.
- Proven ability to manage multiple research projects.
- Experience in proposal writing, business development, and communication with sponsors and stakeholders.
- Extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Two or more years of prior research work experience, especially in DoD-related applications.
- Eligibility for immediate access to classified information.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Salary Range
$110,000-$155,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.
