Job Description

The main tasks will comprise the preparation of thin-film of Bi-based PSK in glovebox via solution-processing methods; characterization of the films (e.g., structure, morphology, surface), fabrication of small-scale photovoltaics and their characterization of their performance and stability.

The scientific objectives include:

1) To design and synthesize low-toxicity Bi-based PSK with tunable bandgap for optimal indoor light harvesting.

2) To engineer the films processing with industrially accepted solvents at low temperature (<140 °C), in turn enabling compatibility with flexible substrates.

3) To reduce trap density of Bi-PSK by fine-tuning the crystal growth via additives/annealing/solvent engineering.

4) To demonstrate efficient and stable lab-scale Bi-PSK based IPVs.

The DC will acquire a broad range of knowledge of the state of the art in related fields, such as materials chemistry, lead-free perovskite photovoltaics and sustainable design. The DC will also be involved in dissemination through social media promotion of the network, such as project webpages, LinkedIn groups, YouTube video channels and blogging.

Planned secondments during the 36-month contract with Tampere University:

  • LifeCARES, Italy; 4 months, from M21; Purpose: LCA studies of novel Bi-based PSK compositions.
  • Endeas, Finland; 3 months, from M31; Purpose: IPV characterization according to standards in an industrial environment.
