1-2 NIH-funded post-doctoral positions are immediately available in Dr. Hong-Bo Zhao’s lab at Department of Surgery – Otolaryngology to investigate (1) pathological changes of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in the auditory system and (2) gene therapy for hearing loss in mouse models.
Experiences on molecular & cellular biology, biochemistry, or AD research are preferred. Preferred qualifications also include but not limit mobility and ability to work independently and collaboratively, desiring to develop and/or adapt novel approaches in biochemistry, molecules and genetics, and PhD in Neuroscience and related disciplines. However, auditory and hearing research experiences are not required.
Our lab (https://medicine.yale.edu/profile/hong-bo-zhao/) mainly investigate (1) deafness mechanisms underlying Cx26 (GJB2) gap junction gene mutations induced hearing loss and (2) functional and pathological changes of Alzheimer’s disease in hearing system. Based on these studies, we are planning to develop gene therapy for Cx26 mutation induced deafness, which is responsible for >50% of nonsyndromic heretical hearing loss in clinic, and identify and provide early hearing biomarkers for early AD detection. Both studies have important significance in treatment of hearing loss and the AD prevention and treatment.
