About PhD Program,

Graduate programs are designed to accommodate the interest and objectives of each student. Students in M.S. and Ph.D. programs conduct original research and receive thorough training in investigative techniques by use of modern facilities with guidance by experienced faculty. The large number of faculty and the diversity of their research interests provides flexibility in graduate training. Course requirements for each student are determined by the major professor and the supervising committee with consideration given to the student’s qualifications and professional interests and goals.

PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,

All students admitted to the Graduate School must meet the following requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a regional or national institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Undergraduate preparation in the proposed major field equivalent to that acquired by a graduate of Kansas State University, or evidence of an appropriate background for undertaking an advanced degree program, and
  • A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale or GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework. This GPA is based only on courses graded on a multi-level scale, usually A, B, C, D, F.

PhD Funding Coverage,

Graduate students may apply for a number of scholarships and research and teaching assistantships. Most students enrolled in a graduate-level program in Agronomy are supported during their study and are appointed to a half-time graduate research assistantship. Currently, students appointed to a half-time assistantship receive $28,054 per year when pursuing an M.S. degree and $30,436 per year when pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

Various fellowships, scholarships, and grants are available to provide financial support to graduate students throughout their graduate education. Some funding opportunities are offered by the Graduate School and other units at K-State. Other funding opportunities are offered by external agencies and organizations.
