Following Belgium’s independence in 1830, the university transitioned to French, and in 1930, it became the first Belgian university to adopt Dutch as its official language.

Educational Approach

We offer over 200 programs, including 69 English-taught master’s programs, across 11 faculties. Our educational strategy emphasizes multiperspectivism, encouraging students to view issues from various angles and develop critical thinking skills.

Campus and Facilities

Our main campus is located in Ghent, with additional campuses in Courtrai, Bruges, Ostend, and even a Global Campus in South Korea. The university boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including the iconic Boekentoren (Book Tower) designed by Henry van de Velde, housing millions of volumes.
