For August 2026, we are offering two challenging apprenticeships in a fascinating research environment in the Transport at Nanoscale Interfaces department and the Center for Electronics and Reliability.

Your tasks

Working at an ETH research institute brings a lot of variety to your daily work. If you’re interested in physics, electronics, technology, and materials, we guarantee you exciting tasks in an international research environment. You also love tinkering and working.

Your profile

Secondary school A will soon be history, and you will graduate with excellent grades, especially in science, mathematics, and language subjects. Your theoretical and practical interest in physics, electronics, computer science, technical systems, and materials and chemistry will support you during your apprenticeship. You have good observation and comprehension skills, are persistent, eager to experiment, and enjoy working in a team. Your technical understanding and manual dexterity are just as important as your ability for abstract and analytical thinking. We also value diligence and reliability. Enjoyment of working with computers and electronics is a must.

You are also convinced that you want to start your future with an apprenticeship.

  • Versatile basic training in electronics, measurement technology, mechanics, construction, programming, microscopy and materials science
  • Development, production and commissioning of measuring systems and test setups
  • Preparation, execution and documentation of experiments
  • Physical investigation of the material properties of electronic assemblies and components
  • Participation in research projects at various departments of Empa
  • Dedicated and qualified specialist trainers
  • Very well-equipped laboratory workstations with modern equipment
  • You attend vocational school in Zurich. Attendance at the BMS is supported
