The department conducts basic and applied research within chemistry, physics, medical biology, molecular biology, environmental sciences and mathematics. Bachelor programs are offered within these areas, as are interdisciplinary Master programs.

The Chemistry Section conducts cutting-edge research at the intersection of chemistry, biology, and human health. Our current focus areas include organic synthesis, biodegradable plastics, bioinspired nanomaterials, enzyme catalysis, neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, proteomics, and metabolomics.
We specialize in solution and solid-phase synthesis, biophysical characterization, mass spectrometry (GC-MS, LC-MS), and spectroscopy, including small molecule and macromolecular NMR. Our state-of-the-art organic synthesis, analytical and biophysical chemistry labs are well equipped with advanced and various infrastructure and support both fundamental and applied research, providing students with strong theoretical foundations and advanced practical skills.
Faculty contribute to teaching in organic, physical, analytical, and biological chemistry, as well as bioprocess science. As an interdisciplinary hub, we collaborate widely with academic and industrial partners in molecular biology, medicine, environmental science, mathematics, and physics—locally and internationally.

The position is open to applicants with an expertise in analytical chemistry of small organic molecules, natural products and/or macromolecules, who wants to establish a research group in this field. The department is particularly interested in research themes that will complement ongoing activities in the chemistry group and foster new collaborative research with other sections at the department. The Assistant Professor’s duties will comprise research at a high international level and a strong commitment and contribution to teaching in chemistry and interdisciplinary programs at all levels across the department.

Roskilde University has a strategic focus on student recruitment, industrial collaboration and interdisciplinary science, and the Assistant Professor must be willing to support this strategy and be motivated to develop new collaboration platforms. The Assistant Professor will teach in an interdisciplinary environment and engage in problem-oriented project work with extensive student involvement and responsibility.
