Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa is excited to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates whose research has implications for health and who can contribute to graduate training and instruction in one of the three program areas: cognitive, counseling, or social psychology. Excellent psychology and health research is conducted across disciplinary and methodological boundaries, and we encourage applicants whose work, while not traditionally classified as ‘health psychology,’ has clear and significant health implications. We welcome scholars from a wide range of research areas who can contribute to the department’s focus on health psychology, broadly defined.
Responsibilities for this position include conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate psychology classes, advising doctoral students, and contributing service to the department, university, and profession. The start date for the position is August 16, 2026.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Psychology (cognitive, counseling, health, social, or other relevant psychology discipline) or related field, conferred by the start date of the appointment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Record of excellence in research/scholarship relevant to health
- Record of excellence in research/scholarship relevant to cognitive, counseling, or social psychology
- Record of securing external funding or potential to secure external funding
- Record of excellence in teaching and mentoring
- Potential to contribute to graduate teaching in cognitive, counseling, or social psychology
- Potential to contribute to graduate teaching in quantitative methods

The psychology department at Iowa State University offers thriving Ph.D. programs in social, cognitive, and counseling psychology (APA accredited) and is home to the second largest number of undergraduate majors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
