The Department of Humanities within the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences is seeking a renowned academic to join its team as an Assistant Professor (depending on qualifications) in Language Sciences (French). The recruited person will participate in research activities in the fields related to language sciences (including linguistics, semiotics, stylistics, rhetoric).
Your role
The recruited person will participate in research activities in fields relating to language sciences (notably linguistics, semiotics, stylistics, rhetoric).
It will be used to consolidate and strengthen the research program in the field of applied and digital linguistics, oriented towards digital humanities (digital literacy, multimodality, textometry).
Areas of teaching
The recruited person will be responsible for teaching activities in general linguistics and language sciences in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle programs of French studies, covering a wide range of subjects and approaches in their course offering:
- Bachelor in European Cultures (BCE) – French Studies: stylistics and pragmatics of text, text grammar, discourse analysis, digital literacy. Supervision of bachelor’s theses
- Master’s degree in secondary education (French language and literature stream): disciplinary specialization courses in language sciences or with a didactic vocation in the teaching and learning of French, particularly in a multilingual context; digital literacy. Supervision of master’s theses
- Doctoral school: scientific writing, research methodology, supervision of doctoral students

Your profile
- A doctorate in language sciences (7th section of the CNU for candidates from France), preferably with a focus on digital literacy
- Post-doctoral experience in scientific research and academic teaching of at least three years
- An international research profile demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, the organization of conferences, seminars, study days, scientific interventions in numerous research locations, obtaining research funding
- An ability to build collaborations between colleagues from different disciplines and with local cultural institutions
- A spirit of initiative and intellectual curiosity, openness to multilingualism and an interest in the country are essential prerequisites
Language requirements
The University of Luxembourg is located in a multilingual environment. The person selected for this position must be proficient in native/near-native French and English. - Contract type: 5-year fixed-term contract (conditional pre-tenure), with the prospect of a permanent position and promotion to Assistant Professor in the event of a positive evaluation. In the case of an excellent, more experienced candidate, a direct appointment to Assistant Professor with a permanent contract may be considered.
