Health Sciences IT (HSIT) is seeking a dynamic professional to fill a crucial role that assists study teams in identifying and obtaining clinical, claims, or administrative research data. The HSIT Research team provides support for the six schools of the health sciences. As such, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with research teams and their Principal Investigators (PIs) to recommend the appropriate data to answer research questions as well as the best avenue to obtain that data.
The clinician informaticist will work to understand our EHR, claims, and administrative datasets and must have experience with EHR systems and how the data is stored. They will work with multiple study teams concurrently, as well as with external data partners. The informaticist must understand the potential nuances of original EHR data entry in the clinical setting. They will recommend variables and provide documentation to study teams and the data managers who will extract the data for the study teams. In the event we do not have the data, the incumbent will work with data partners to define the data elements to retrieve and update documentation and mappings.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a clinical setting and on research teams, with a certification or degree in informatics. They will understand common data models and the challenges with each, as well as how to map data to those CDMs. They must have experience with Epic. Experience with Cerner and data management is a plus but not required.

Job Summary

Collaborates with clinicians to identify which EHR, Claims, or Administrative data elements should be used to best answer the research questions to achieve the program goals. Works with project teams to determine the variables that best meet the needs and advises the pros and cons of each.

Essential Functions

Collaborate with research teams to define data elements to support their research.
Understand EHR, Claims, and administrative health datasets.
Review regulatory documentation.
Work with external data partners to obtain knowledge to support researchers.
Do basic queries to learn more about our existing EHR datasets.
Be able to do chart reviews in Cerner and Epic to find data elements in databases.

Work Schedule 2 Days In Office; Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m

Work Arrangement Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
