Who We Are
The Division of Student Affairs Department of Marketing & Communications is comprised of talented professionals from a variety of creative backgrounds. These staff members support the departments and committees in the division with education and outreach for students, faculty and staff. The Marketing & Communications Team provides supervision and oversight to the Division of Student Affairs marketing and communications efforts and departments.
What We Want
The Communications Coordinator, under general direction from the director of marketing and communications, provides leadership, strategic direction, and hands-on implementation of storytelling, internal websites, newsletter distribution and email communications for the Division of Student Affairs, including the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and its 13 departments.

Responsibilities
Email and Internal Communications Coordination:
- Coordinates both internal and external communications through email channels, including the division’s digital newsletters and Division of Student Affairs internal websites.
- Develops email and internal website content, including strategy, for the Division of Student Affairs.
- Coordinates all aspects, including content and strategy, for the Division of Student Affairs internal SharePoint site.
Storytelling, Newsletter Production, and Public & Media Relations:
- Plans, researches, conducts interviews, writes, edits, manages approvals, distribution, and promotion of written communications for the Division of Student Affairs, including student and staff storytelling campaigns, press releases, division publications, and other materials.
- Generates relative press releases as needed to inform the media of events happening within the Division of Student Affairs.
Communications Plan Coordination:
- Coordinates division-level strategic communications plans across multiple mediums.
- Identifies mechanisms for the promotion of division programs and services to Texas A&M students, Division of Student Affairs staff members, and other populations served by the division and works with the appropriate students and staff members to assure the effective use of this information.
Event Support:
- Supports Division of Student Affairs initiatives at events across campus.
- Identifies opportunities for the Division of Student Affairs to be present at events across campus.
Participation in meetings, committees, working groups and related tasks:
- Actively participates in Division of Student Affairs Marketing & Communications and Division of Student Affairs meetings, committees, working groups, webinars, and related activities.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:Â
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of experience in writing, communications, journalism, marketing, or closely related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Â
- Strong attention to detail; excellent presentation, writing, and editing skills with the ability to proofread and edit for grammar and AP style.
- Ability to think creatively about communicating an organization’s message and brand; proficiency using the Internet, smartphones, various smartphone apps, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to respond to external constituents with tact, diplomacy, and discretion; representation of the department professionally in a variety of public settings.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications:Â
- Five years of experience in writing, communications, journalism, marketing, or a closely related field.
- Familiarity and interest in marketing and communication strategy and planning.
- Familiarity with internal, employee-focused communications.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint.
- Comfortable with public speaking and presenting information to groups.
