The Division of Student Affairs is the hub of student life and well-being at The University of Texas at Austin. Purpose

Provide strategic departmental leadership in the area of Human Resources and related functions and initiatives for the University Unions.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and provide strategic oversight as related to all Human Resource functions for the department including but not limited to: recruiting, hiring, Workday assignments, compensation review, leave management, corrective action, staff recognition, staff training, and professional development opportunities.  Prepare and conduct quarterly All Staff presentations and timely communications to support a cohesive and fair departmental culture.
  • Provide consultation to hiring managers on departmental recruiting, hiring processes, reclassifications, additional duties, merit distributions, training and development, and employee relations issues to ensure compliance and consistency across the department while adhering to all appropriate policies, procedures, regulations and applicable laws.
  • Advise unit supervisors on performance management strategies.  Draft corrective action documents as necessary, liaise and consult with University Human Resources, Department of Investigations and Adjudication, Dean of Students, Title IX Office, University Compliance Services and Legal Services.
  • Serve as a member of the University Unions Senior Leadership team.  Represent the department in all matters of human resource issues, both internally and campus-wide.  Serve on the Student Affairs HR/Budget Committee and other related University and Portfolio wide meetings, focus groups and committees.
  • Provide direct and indirect supervision of HR team staff, including hiring, training and evaluation.
  • Ensure proper security and confidentiality for employee files and human resource related documents, including following records retention policies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree. Five years of current, relevant and substantial experience in the administration of human resource functions.  Experience with employee relations, training and development, recruiting, and performance management.  Experience working with confidential information. Professional demeanor.  Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Supervisory experience. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills and public speaking skills.  Demonstrated ability to work independently as an effective supervisor and as a member of a team. Knowledge of Human Resources best practices and policies.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Administration, or Organizational Development or a related field.  Experience with student employment at a higher education institution.  Experience with the UT Austin environment. Familiarity with Workday HCM. Experience in the development of college students through student employment.  Ability to communicate effectively across different levels of an organization. Ability to speak Spanish.

Salary Range

$90,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Typical office environment; Use of manual dexterity; Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation.

Work Shift

M-F, 8am – 5pm

Some flexibility may be required during peak deadline periods.

Work Shift

This is an on-site position – 40 Hours per week. The schedule will vary with university and departmental schedules, and with the types of events scheduled and operational functions. Working nights, weekends and more than 40 hours per week will be required.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Compliance:
