Job Description
Job description
At the Faculty of Economics and Business administration, within the research group on Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior, we are seeking a motivated colleague to conduct doctoral research on the successful implementation of sustainability policies in organizations.
YOUR JOB
- Although an increasing number of organizations are paying attention to sustainability, the successful implementation of sustainability policies remains a significant challenge. It is essential that teams and employees within the organization support and contribute to the implementation of these policies. The aim of this doctoral research is to gain insight into how consensus can be fostered regarding the (importance of) sustainability goals across different hierarchical levels within an organization, and how this consensus can enhance both the implementation and the positive impact of sustainability policies.
- You will dedicate at least 90% of your assignment to conducting scientific research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation in Business Economics.
- You will carry out high-quality academic research and, within a four-year period, write a doctoral dissertation based on English-language scientific articles that are (potentially) publishable in peer-reviewed academic journals. This research will be conducted in collaboration with the research team.
- You will present interim research findings both internally (e.g., research seminars) and externally (e.g., academic conferences, both nationally and internationally).
- You will contribute to the internal and external service activities of the Department of Marketing, Innovation, and Organization.
- Your supervisors are highly experienced in teaching, research, and the successful supervision of doctoral candidates. You will collaborate with other PhD researchers, fostering rich social interactions and numerous learning opportunities.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which – after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months.
- Your contract will start on September 1, 2025, at the earliest.
- The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member in equal family circumstances. The individual fellowship amount is determined by the Department of Personnel and Organization based on family status and seniority. A grant that meets the conditions and criteria of the regulations for doctoral fellowships is considered free of personal income tax. Click here for more information about our salary scales
- All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance and eco vouchers. Click here for a complete overview of all the staff benefits.
Job profile
- You hold a Master’s degree, preferably—but not limited to—a Master in Economic or Applied Economic Sciences, Business Administration, Business Engineering, Psychological Sciences, Communication Sciences, Sociology, or an equivalent degree. This degree requirement must be fulfilled by the time of appointment.
- A high academic distinction is considered an asset.
- You have a strong interest in academic research and are motivated to embark on and successfully complete a four-year doctoral trajectory.
- You are familiar with (quantitative) research methodologies, possess strong analytical skills, and have experience with data analysis.
- You are intrinsically motivated, have a critical mindset, a keen eye for detail, and are capable of working independently and meticulously. You are open to feedback and eager to learn.
- You are willing to take advantage of the extensive training and development opportunities offered, allowing you to deepen your methodological and statistical knowledge required for doctoral research, as well as to acquire transferable skills that will support your broader career development (e.g., communication, project management).
- You possess strong communication skills, both oral and written, and are willing to further develop these skills.
- You have a good command of English, both spoken and written.
