Course / Program Description
UCLA Extension’s ABA-Approved Paralegal Training Program (PTP) has trained individuals to become paralegals for over 50 years. Instructors include attorneys, paralegals, judges, legal technology experts, and other legal professionals. The program seeks to prepare students to function as ethical, effective and efficient professional paralegals in law firms, businesses, government and nonprofit organizations; to perform a wide variety of legal work under the supervision of attorneys; and to adapt easily to changing roles.
Job Description
We are seeking experienced legal professionals to join our program as contract, part-time instructors for our daytime and evening programs in the following areas:
- Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing
- Real Estate/Real Property Law
- Legal Technology
- Civil Procedure/Civil Litigation
- Contracts
- Torts & Personal Injury
- Criminal Law & Procedure
- Business Organizations & Securities
- The Paralegal Profession
Courses are taught live online from 9:00am to 12:30pm (daytime program) or 6:30 to 10pm (evening program).
Instructor Duties:
- Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to students and leverage additional resources appropriately to enhance the curriculum;
- Design course activities to develop both knowledge and practical paralegal competencies;
- Implement inclusive teaching strategies that engage learners from a variety of backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experience levels with the goal to achieve equity in learning outcomes;
- Utilize Canvas learning management system, Zoom, and any other technology required for instruction
- Update or develop course materials and regularly review course evaluations in order to make adjustments and improvements to instruction and course content.
- Provide students feedback and grade materials within specified timeframes.
- Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner including completing all required trainings
- Participate in two instructor meetings per year and participate in instructor training and development programs offered as needed to enhance instructional skills
- Stay current regarding subject matter area of expertise

Qualifications
Basic qualifications
- Committed to the highest level of academic standards and integrity
- 6 years of legal experience
- Experience or understanding of working with paralegals or as a paralegal
- Passion and enthusiasm for teaching, along with a commitment to continued professional growth as a teacher and professional.
- Proficiency in or willingness to learn the use of instructional technology and online teaching tools
Preferred qualifications
- Prior teaching experience in online environment
- Advanced degree from an accredited institution
