We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about student success and thrives in a dynamic, student-focused environment. The ideal candidate will have strong editing and writing skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and experience in program coordination as well as familiarity with social media content creation and a proactive, self-directed approach to learning. Experience in higher education is preferred.

 

What You Need to Know

Salary Range: $45,000.00 – $47,000.00 (Based on selected hire’s qualifications)

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of experience in program coordination, event coordination, or closely related experience to include demonstrated experience in reviewing essays and providing constructive feedback; coordinating outreach efforts, including through social media; and organizing outreach events and managing program logistics

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Over one year of experience in program administration
  • Familiarity with office administration, database management, and report analysis
  • Experience working with high-achieving students as well as underserved populations, including student veterans
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in a changing environment while exercising initiative to accomplish tasks
  • Experience managing awards and handling selection processes, including recruitment
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, parents, and all levels of university staff regarding student issues especially regarding deadlines, emergencies, and delicate situations
  • Familiarity with national fellowships
  • Experience working with students to improve essays, résumés, and other written materials
  • Experience designing engaging social media content, flyers, and handouts

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong critical thinking, initiative, and self-learning skills
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet (Excel), and database programs
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with students, faculty, administrators, and staff at all levels of the university
  • Exceptional writing and public speaking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to creative problem-solving
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain a cooperative work environment

 

Responsibilities

Program Coordination

  • Coordinates all aspects of the National Fellowships Program, including outreach (both in-person and via social media), recruitment, and selection processes for internal and external awards
  • Manages campus nomination processes for core scholarships such as Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Churchill, Truman, Goldwater, Boren, Fulbright, Gaither, Udall, Freeman-ASIA, and Astronaut, as well as non-core awards that serve as pathways into these competitions
  • Provides individualized support to students, including reviewing and offering feedback on application drafts
  • Oversees the program’s assessment and evaluation efforts
  • Coordinates logistics and travel for seminars, workshops, orientations, and other special events
  • Handles the purchase of program materials
  • Prepares reports for students, prospective students, the university, and the broader community
  • Conducts research and recommends improvements to existing programs

 

Administrative

  • Serves as first point of contact for program information and coordinates responses to requests for program information
  • Supports maintenance of office databases
  • Tracks and monitors program budget
  • Coordinates with committee meetings and materials
  • Prepares program correspondence

 

Student Advising 

  • Maintains office hours to advise students on National Fellowships opportunities
