Project
Within AccentVV, your main assignment will be a doctoral research in the field of oncological care. With the TRANSFORM project ( transmural follow – up care after cancer ) , we will focus on the development and implementation of a transmural care model for nursing follow-up care after cancer. Based on international best-practice examples and with the participation of patients and care providers from the hospital and primary care, we are developing a care model for nursing follow-up after cancer in primary care. In the follow-up of the TRANSFORM project, we will focus on implementation: we will develop an implementation plan to meet the barriers and needs of nurses in hospital and primary care to provide transmural follow-up care. We will then implement and investigate the effects of a nurse-led transition.
You will – under guidance and supervision – take charge of the preparation and execution of the studies, the analysis and interpretation of the data, the publication of the research and the dissemination of the results to a wider audience. You are also involved in the funding application for (part of) the research project.
As part of your research project, you will also be involved in improvement initiatives regarding aftercare from UZ Leuven and the Oncological Care Unit of the LKI (Leuven Cancer Institute) and in education such as supervision of related master’s theses in (among others) the Master in Nursing and Midwifery.
Profile
- You recently obtained a Master’s degree in Nursing and Midwifery, or you completed another Master’s degree in Health Sciences. You had an excellent curriculum in which you obtained at least distinction in the Master’s year
- You have experience in oncological care and/or primary care, and you are strongly committed to transmural collaboration.
- You have a strong affinity for scientific research and can write scientifically. (Experience in research is a plus, but not a must.
- You have the desire and ability to further expand your methodological and statistical skills and are willing to complete a PhD.
- You have excellent oral and written communication skills in Dutch and English.
- You have a strong motivation to collaborate with interprofessional stakeholders on this topic (nurse specialists and consultants, home care nurses, oncologists and hematologists, general practitioners, and others) and you are not afraid of contact with international experts.
- You have strong analytical skills and a critical attitude.
- You have strong project management skills and possess good problem-solving skills and the necessary didactic qualities.
- You are well organized and able to take initiative and work independently.
- You are flexible and enjoy working in a team environment.

- A full-time PhD position with a grant status (not part-time) for 1 year, renewable upon positive interim evaluation after 1 year, up to a maximum of 4 years.
