Project details
This project will study rearrangement and anulation reactions for per- and poly-fluoroarene derivatives. Reactions involving tandem SNAr, Smiles or Truce-Smiles processes will be examined. The reactions will be developed to prepare new and usefully functionalised aromatic and heterocyclic compounds.

Entry requirements for United Kingdom
Applicants should have, or shortly be expecting an upper second or first class degree in chemistry or a closely related discipline. An interest in, and good knowledge of, organic chemistry and reaction mechanism is required. Experience of practical synthetic chemistry is necessary, as is familiarity with spectroscopic methods of analysis including NMR, IR and MS. Candidates need not submit a research proposal but should highlight their interest in this project. References will be taken up as part of the recruitment process.

Fees and funding
Tuition fees for 2025-26 entry
UK fee
£5,006 Full-time degree per annum
International fee
£28,600 Full-time degree per annum
Fees for the 2025-26 academic year apply to projects starting in October 2025, January 2026, April 2026 and July 2026.
Tuition fees cover the cost of your teaching, assessment and operating University facilities such as the library, IT equipment and other support services. University fees and charges can be paid in advance and there are several methods of payment, including online payments and payment by instalment. Fees are reviewed annually and are likely to increase to take into account inflationary pressures.
