CN section(s): 01 – Interactions, particles, nuclei from the laboratory to the cosmos
Missions
The CPPM is recruiting an experimental physicist or physical chemist (M/F) to work on the capture of radon in microporous materials with application to particle physics.
Mission
The candidate will have to work on the laboratory’s activities concerning radon, and more specifically on the capture of radon in microporous materials in collaboration with the MADIREL laboratory (Divided Materials Interfaces Reactivity Electrochemistry) in the context of the ANR IRENE (Innovative mateRials for Extreme radoN capturE).
Required skills
– Knowledge of nuclear physics and measurement of radioactivity (alpha and gamma spectroscopy)
– Knowledge of nuclear instrumentation.
– Simulation and numerical modeling (GEANT4)
– Carrying out data acquisition.
Activities
The successful candidate will participate in data collection and analysis of the various existing measurement benches at the CPPM on radon capture. In particular, he/she will be responsible for the development of a new device for the qualification of radon capture in a xenon atmosphere. Part of the work will also take place at MADIREL, mainly concerning the textural characterization and adsorption properties of microporous materials developed by the ANR IRENE partners. The candidate will carry out gas physisorption measurements to evaluate the porosity as well as the interaction properties (adsorption energies) of the adsorbents with xenon using a device coupling calorimetry.
SKILLS
Required skills
– Knowledge of nuclear physics and measurement of radioactivity (alpha and gamma spectroscopy)

Work context
Work context
The work context is the CPPM radon platform on the Luminy site and the MADIREL Porous and Powders Axis on the Saint-Jérôme site. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the electronics, mechanics and IT departments of the CPPM and MADIREL as well as with colleagues from other laboratories of the IRENE consortium.
