Job Title:

Post Doctoral Scholar

Department:

Veterinary Medicine | Veterinary Biosciences

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar with expertise in structural biology to join our interdisciplinary team focused on understanding antibody interactions and advancing vaccine and therapeutic design for cancer and other diseases that affect both humans and animals. The successful candidate will be involved in the structural analysis of antigens, antibodies, and their complexes using techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), X-ray crystallography, and supporting biophysical methods. Responsibilities will include protein expression and purification, structure determination and interpretation, and applying structural insights to guide antibody optimization and immunogen design. The postdoc will collaborate closely with researchers in immunology and related fields, contribute to publications and grant writing, and will have the opportunity to explore independent research projects aligned with the lab’s goals. The ideal candidate is collaborative, detail-oriented, and passionate about using structural biology to address fundamental questions in medicine.

This position will be based in a research laboratory environment with standard laboratory conditions. Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods for data analysis, molecular modeling, and manuscript preparation. May require occasional work with biological samples, including recombinant proteins and antibodies. Use of specialized equipment such as FPLC, crystallization robots, and cryo-EM sample preparation instruments. Adherence to safety protocols for handling biological and chemical reagents. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on experimental timelines.

Additional Information:

This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities; however, the postdoctoral scholar may provide guidance and mentorship to graduate students,

undergraduate researchers, or junior lab staff as needed within the scope of collaborative research projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION (List all essential skills/qualifications) Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with one or more structural biology techniques, such as cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), or X-ray crystallography. Proven ability to carry out protein expression, purification, and structural analysis of macromolecular complexes. Strong background in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and biophysical characterization methods. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in computational modeling or structure-based design is desirable.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION (List all desired skills/qualifications) Experience in cryo-EM single particle analysis or integrative structural biology approaches. Prior work on structure-guided protein engineering or rational vaccine design. Proficiency with computational tools for structure prediction, modeling, and analysis (e.g., Chimera, PyMOL, Phenix, Rosetta, AlphaFold). Experience mentoring junior researchers or supervising laboratory personnel.
