Job Description
Description | Position Summary: The Lei-Markmann Laboratory Group is hiring Molecular Biologists for stem cell research projects aimed at advancing cell therapies for Type 1 diabetes. We seek postdoctoral candidates with a strong interest in developmental and pancreatic islet biology and expertise in molecular biology. The ideal candidate is scientifically independent, proactive, and demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills. Key Responsibilities: Implement SOPs, perform cell culture, and design exploratory research to generate stem cell-derived islets (SC-islets) and/or advance islet cell biology. Utilize in vivo transplantation models in small and large animals, including nonhuman primates, alongside cell-based assays to assess the characteristics of stem cells and function of SC-islets. Apply a range of techniques—including gene engineering, gene expression analysis, single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics (spatial Seq), and bioinformatics—to investigate the fate of stem cells and differentiated SC-islets, driving advancements in beta cell replacement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, coordinate, and execute experiments. Present findings internally and externally. |

Qualifications | Scientific and Non-scientific Skills: Experience in molecular biology and molecular immunology techniques, including but not limited to gene engineering, single-cell RNA sequencing, and cell lineage tracing. Proficiency in cell-based assays such as gene expression analysis (e.g., qPCR, Nanostring) and flow cytometry. Familiarity with computational biology and its applications. Experience in differentiating pluripotent stem cells (hESC and/or hiPSC) into functional islets is desirable. A proven track record of publications is required. Preferred Education and Experience Levels: Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology or related disciplines and 0-3 years of relevant post-doctoral working experience |
