Postdoctoral fellow at the Unit for Environmental Medical Epidemiology

Postdoc @Karolinska Institutet posted 2 days ago

Job Description

Your role

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow for a project that aims to investigate how exposure to environmental factors (chemicals, air pollution, transport noise and greenery) affects the health of young adults. The project is based on an ongoing epidemiological study (BAMSE), where 4089 children have been followed since infancy (BAMSE Project | Karolinska Institutet). BAMSE contains information on exposure to air pollution, transport noise and greenery on repeated occasions during childhood, as well as information on environmental chemicals collected using biomarkers. We also have information on asthma, allergic diseases and markers of cardiometabolic health up to adulthood.

As a postdoctoral fellow, you will participate in the planning and implementation of research studies, including data processing, statistical analyses, and manuscript writing. Your duties will also include, to a limited extent, teaching, supervising students, working with grant applications, disseminating research results, and health risk assessment.

Who are you?

To be employed as a postdoctoral researcher, you must have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree that is considered equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made. It is an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the past three years, but if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are looking for someone with a PhD in medicine, environmental medicine, epidemiology or a related field. You should have experience in epidemiological studies, training in epidemiology and statistics, and experience in independently performing statistical analyses using statistical programs (preferably STATA). Experience working with data from birth cohorts is an advantage. Knowledge of toxicology and experience working with biomarkers for environmental chemicals is also an advantage, as is knowledge of asthma, allergic diseases and/or cardiometabolic health. Good knowledge of English, including scientific writing, is a requirement, while good knowledge of Swedish is an advantage.

We place great importance on personal suitability and are looking for an employee who enjoys working in a team, demonstrates good collaboration skills and at the same time is independent enough to formulate new hypotheses and critically review results.

What do we offer?

We offer a creative, international, inspiring environment filled with competence and curiosity. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading medical universities. Here we conduct successful medical research and have the largest range of medical education in Sweden. At KI you will meet researchers with different research areas working together. It is this cross-border collaboration that contributes to KI’s world-leading position in research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the healthcare sector is important for creating education and research of the highest quality. As a university, Karolinska Institutet is also a government agency. This means that as an employee you receive good benefits through our collective agreement.

The position is a two-year, full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral position, starting by agreement.

Application

The application must consist of the following documents, written in English or Swedish:

  • Proof of doctoral degree
  • A complete CV including date of public defense, title of thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic awards and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (maximum one page)

Applications must be made via the Varbi recruitment system.

You are welcome to submit your application no later than the date stated as the closing date for applications in the advertisement.
