Postdoctoral Researcher in Immunology

Postdoc @Karolinska Institutet posted 11 hours ago

Job Description

This Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Division of Immunology, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB), will be part of Professor Qiang Pan-Hammarström’s research group. The group conducts research on the genetics of inborn errors of immunity, B cell biology, B-cell lymphomagenesis and immunotherapy. It consists of several PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and senior scientists. We offer a stimulating scientific environment and a top research infrastructure both locally, at the department level, and institution level.

We are interested in studying adaptive immunity, focusing mainly on B cell development and immunoglobulin gene diversifications in the context of inborn errors of immunity. We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow with a strong background in basic immunology and molecular medicine, particularly in investigating genetic mechanisms underlying inborn errors of immunity associated with antibody deficiency and other types of adaptive immune defects in humans.

Your mission

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated candidate who is interested in applying new technologies and tools to investigate the mechanisms underlying human inborn errors of immunity and to validate novel disease-causing genes. In this position, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team of researchers, including clinicians, biotechnologists, and bioinformaticians. The ultimate goal is to gain deeper insights into how we can improve diagnosis and treatment of patients with immunodeficiency, whether in the context of infection, allergy, autoimmunity and cancer. To achieve this, the team is working with a well-characterized cohort of genetically defined patients[HM1] . The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to conduct mainly functional assays, including handling human samples, immunological profiling, cell culture, genome editing, single-cell sequencing, multi-omics analysis, and other relevant functional validation assays.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

The candidate must hold a PhD in immunology or related biomedical fields, and have experience in transcriptome/proteome expression assays, site-directed mutagenesis, advanced cell culturing, multicolor/spectral flow-cytometry and cell sorting. For the current position, priority will be given to candidates with documented experience in performing standard molecular and cell biology assays, generating iPSC and organoid models, applying CRISPR/Cas9 based gene knockout or other base/prime editing methods for human cells, such as T and B cells, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells, and conducting single-cell multi-omics analyses.

The applicant must be detail-oriented and capable of working efficiently in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, research environment. In addition to taking the lead and advancing a specific research project(s), it is expected that the candidate will contribute to common laboratory duties and participate in the supervision of research students. Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement.
