About the role
This is a pivotal role at the heart of a dynamic and collaborative Department. The postholder will lead a team of Research and Finance Administrators, providing proactive support to Academic Staff in managing all aspects of research and financial administration. They will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Resources Office.
What you would be doing
You will provide excellent support to the academic community within the Department overseeing their research and finance operations, ensuring funds are spent within guidelines, income and expenditure closely monitored and Department’s research and finance strategy implemented across a wide-ranging portfolio. As the primary contact for research and finance operations between the Department and the Faculty, you will keep abreast of changes in University policies and procedures. You will also drive continuous improvement in department processes to enhance efficiency, streamline workflows and ensure accuracy.
You will work closely with the Director of Operations, providing statistical and financial insights to support the future research strategy as well as other strategic aspects of departmental administration. This includes assisting with the annual budgeting process and the end of financial year process.
As a manager of a team of Research and Finance Administrators, you will provide excellent leadership, supporting their development and training, whilst ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, responsive service to Academic Staff. Further information can be found in the JD.
What we are looking for
You will be someone with a hands-on approach who enjoys working in a busy environment. With proven experience managing and developing teams as well as the ability to manage projects.
Your background in financial management across a varied research portfolio will enable you to apply your expertise and attention to detail to maximise income and spend, while providing informed guidance on funding body policies.
You enjoy working in diverse teams and are highly organised. You are a confident communicator, self-sufficient in the use of Windows-based software and web-based information systems with advanced use of Excel.

Further information
This position is available full-time, either as a 12-month secondment for internal applicants or a 12-month fixed-term contract for external applicants. The role follows a hybrid working model, requiring three days per week on-site at the South Kensington campus.
