The Department of Arabic/Islamic Studies I at the Georg August University of Göttingen is seeking a

research assistant (f/m/d)

at the Chair of Islamic Studies with a focus on the history and cultures of the Middle East (Prof. Dr. Jens Scheiner) to begin on September 15, 2025. The position will be limited to 50% of the regular weekly working hours (currently 19.9 hours/week) for a period of three years. The position may be extended. The salary will be based on salary group 13 TV-L .

Your tasks
• Implementation of a doctoral project in the area of ​​”Late Antiquity, Early Islam, Classical Islam”
• Participation in the courses according to § 31 NHG and in the performance examinations (to the extent of 2 SWS)
• Collaboration in the research focus Late Antique and Early Islamic Studies (LAESSI) https://www.uni-goettingen.de/de/668647.html
• Participation in student support and advice as well as curriculum design
• Support in the area of ​​academic organization

Your profile
• Very good, qualified master’s degree in Islamic Studies or Arabic Studies, preferably in combination with Iranian Studies, History or Christian Orient
• Initial experience in interdisciplinary research in the area of ​​early Islam and late antiquity
• Initial didactic experience or teaching experience
• Initial experience in the area of ​​academic organization
• Relevant very good language skills in German, Arabic and English, also optionally desired: Persian, Middle Persian, Latin, Greek, Syriac Aramaic or Hebrew
