About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Research Associate to investigate the use of microorganisms to valorise plastic waste.
We are seeking a highly motivated, ambitious, self-driven, and skilled Research Associate to carry out research programmes in environmental synthetic biology, undertake project management and/or supervise multi-disciplinary teams. You will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.
What you would be doing
- You will be responsible for identifying and developing suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data.
- You will publish in high quality journals and develop materials for oral and poster presentations, effectively communicating research outcomes to colleagues and presenting findings at conferences.
- You will actively participate in Group research meetings and internal seminars and contribute to the writing of research grant proposals.
- You will provide guidance and direction to undergraduate and postgraduate students, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.
What we are looking for
- You should hold, or be near completion of, a PhD (or equivalent) in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline and have practical experience within a research environment. You should have practical experience in a broad range of techniques including molecular biology, metabolic engineering, analytical methods and bioinformatics.
- You should have experience dealing with sponsors and partners in multidisciplinary projects, and a successful track record of academic publications in refereed journals.
- You should have knowledge of microbiology, molecular biology, and metabolic engineering as well as relevant knowledge in bioinformatics and -omics methods.
- You should have the ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature and the ability to develop and apply new concepts.

Further information
The post is available full time, fixed term for 3 years. You will be based at South Kensington Campus.
Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant.
