About the role

Applications are invited for a Research Associate in Radio Systems and Prototyping for 6G

The Research Associate will conduct original research in research in radio system prototyping of emerging wireless communications and wireless sensing as part of an EPSRC funded project across the UK on “Future communications hub in all-spectrum connectivity”. The Research Associate will work on developing world’s first proof of concept of emerging physical layer of various future multi-antenna wireless communications and sensing networks and show their feasibility through experimental demonstrations.

The Research Associate will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.

Other aspects of the post include undertaking project management, collaborating with PhD students and Research Associates, as well as academic and industry partners, and/or supervising multi-disciplinary teams.

 

What you would be doing

Key responsibilities include:

  • To take initiatives in the planning of research
  • To direct the work of small research teams
  • To closely follow and contribute to the progress of the project and cooperate with other researchers
  • To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To write reports for submission to research sponsors
  • To contribute to the timely production of project deliverables
  • To present findings to colleagues and at conferences
  • To submit publications to refereed journals

 

What we are looking for

Education

  • Research Associate: Hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in wireless communications, wireless sensing, radio system prototyping and experimentation and a significant publication track record
  • Research Assistant: Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in wireless communications, wireless sensing, radio system prototyping and experimentation and a significant publication track record.

Experience

  • Experience within a research environment
  • Experience of writing scientific publications in top conferences or journals
  • Experience of writing concise and pertinent reports
  • Experience of making effective presentations
  • Experience of conducting independent research

Knowledge

Knowledge in several areas among:

  • Wireless communications
  • MIMO signal processing
  • Radio system prototyping and experimentation
  • Software-defined radio
  • Labview and FPGA programming

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature
  • Ability to develop and apply new concepts
  • Creative approach to problem-solving
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication
  • Ability to direct the work of a small research team and motivate others to produce a high standard of work
