University Library of Bern (UB)

  • We provide information resources for research, teaching and study – electronically or on paper
  • We help with simple and complex (specialist) research and impart information competence
  • We provide support and infrastructure for scientific publications, research and project data
  • We collect and digitize Bernese
  • And as a university and cantonal library, we are there for everyone

The University Library of Bern supports researchers at the University of Bern with infrastructure and services in the field of open science. To implement and further develop our services, we are seeking a new member of our Open Access team, starting in September 2025 or by arrangement.

 

Tasks
  • Supporting researchers at the University of Bern in publishing research results and implementing Open Access
  • Supporting researchers in meeting open access requirements of research funders (especially SNSF, EU, NIH)
  • Advising researchers on all issues related to the publication of texts (including contracts, licenses, and financing)
  • Supporting researchers in establishing and migrating open access journals, including advice on contractual and legal issues and international standards
  • Training for researchers on all topics related to open access and scientific publishing
  • Development and implementation of communication measures, information events and training courses on all topics related to open access and scientific publishing
  • Networking and visibility of existing Open Access offerings at the University of Bern
  • Participation in national and internal projects, working groups and committees on Open Access
  • Monitoring national and international developments in the field of open access and scientific communication
  • Active participation in specialist conferences (posters, presentations)
Requirements

Technical requirements

  • Relevant expertise and experience in the field of open science, especially open access and science communication
  • Sound knowledge of scientific publishing
  • Teaching experience at university level

General requirements

  • University degree (PhD desirable)
  • Willingness to undertake formal and informal training
  • Quick grasp of new digital tools and technical infrastructures
  • Service orientation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Initiative and ability to work in a team
  • Fluent German and English
