One of the research directions at IMM and at the Unit of Nutritional and Cardiovascular Epidemiology is focused on advancing knowledge about etiology of a wide spectrum of chronic diseases (including cancer) and their prognosis with emphasis on diet and other modifiable lifestyle factors of great importance for primary and secondary prevention. The research is based on two large population-based longitudinal cohorts including 110,000 women and men, with information about their lifestyle available from questionnaires and about their health status from health registers, as well as with available biological samples.
Your mission
The research specialist is expected to conduct studies in nutritional epidemiology with a focus on cancer. Duties include statistical analyses of the available longitudinal nutritional data with repeated assessments of diet and writing research articles. Hypotheses to be studied are formulated in an ongoing project (wholegrain products and cancer) financed by the Swedish Cancer Foundation.
Eligibility requirements
For employment as Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented postdoctoral research experience.
Assessment criteria
It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown
- deep knowledge of human nutrition
- experience with writing and publishing scientific papers
- experience from studying chronic diseases
- substantial experience from statistical analyses of large databases and prospectively collected data
- experience from nutritional epidemiological studies based on longitudinal cohorts with repeated assessments of diet (documented via own publications)
- experience of using SAS and Stata programs
 It is meritorious that the applicant has shown
- good knowledge of the Swedish Mammography Cohort (SMC) and the Cohort of Swedish Men (COSM) and has experience from previous use of these databases.
