All that’s needed is a place where ideas have the space to meet and grow. That’s what we’ve created – and you are invited.

Change starts here!

The Faculty of Technology is one of five faculties at Linnaeus University. We bring together the university’s education and research in technical subjects. Our operations are organized into nine departments and a faculty office. We also house the Linnaeus University Centre DISA and two Linnaeus Knowledge Environments: Green Sustainable Development and Digital Transformations. Several of the faculty’s research groups collaborate within the strategic research area of Forest Values.

The department of informatics consists of approximately 30 employees, and we aim to further grow. Within the department, research is conducted with a focus on the design and use of digital technology in organizational and societal contexts. Active research areas are Data-driven business innovation, Systems Thinking, and Interaction Design which are linked to our six educational programs. Several of the programs are offered remotely, both nationally and internationally. Informatics also has independent courses as well as teaching and research collaborations with other faculties.

Field of subject for the appointment: Informatics
Placement city: Växjö or Kalmar. Since the Linnaeus University is located in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between the locations may occur.
Scope of appointment: 100%
Starting date: Starting date as soon as possible or as agreed upon. In the normal case, a 6-month probation period is applied.

Job description
The duties include teaching and supervision primarily at the undergraduate level, but also at the advanced level. This is done in courses within areas related to informatics education, such as digital transformation of businesses, digital innovation and disruptive business models, informatics’ logic for systems- and business development, digital platforms and digital eco-systems, and digital sustainability.

The duties also involve course development and course administration, as well as following developments within the subject area, which also includes collaboration with companies and organizations. Administrative duties and assignments in various groups and committees within the department, as well as assignments in university-wide committees and research environments, may be included.

The position also involves tasks that cover the entire research cycle, i.e., from literature reviews, identifying research challenges and implementing research projects, to reporting results in the form of publications. Moreover, tasks related to research include co-supervision of doctoral students, active participation in the operational work for the development of research groups and education within the subject area of informatics, and attracting external research funding.

Eligibility
Eligible to be employed as a senior lecturer is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skills, has completed a doctorate in one of the subjects such as informatics, computer and information science, interaction design, or has equivalent scientific competence. Equivalent scientific competence generally refers to a degree from a foreign university with essentially the same level and quality as a Swedish doctoral degree in the above-mentioned subjects.

Eligibility for this position also requires good communication skills in English, both spoken and written. Applicants are expected to work in teaching and student groups where good collaboration and flexibility are of great importance. Therefore, documented good ability to collaborate and communicate with people at different levels within and outside the organization is required, as well as the ability to create and maintain networks and good relationships.

Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for the employment of a senior lecturer shall be the degree of such skill as is a requirement for eligibility for employment. The assessment of pedagogical skill must be given as much care as the assessment of other eligibility conditions.

Guiding factors for assessing scientific proficiency are the independence, scope and quality of one’s own research.

Other assessment criteria regarding experience in research-related activities:

  • Documented experience of external research funding applications
  • Documented experience of collaboration with industry and other societal actors, as well as participation in research- and development projects, both at national and international level.

The pedagogical skill must have been demonstrated through teaching and refers to the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination. The pedagogical skill must demonstrate a reflective approach to student learning and to one’s own teaching role.

Other assessment criteria within pedagogical skills:

  • experience in distance learning as well as hybrid based teaching and learning;
  • documented knowledge of research methodology and theories applied in informatics/information systems;
  • experience in applications of informatics perspectives in society

Higher education teaching training corresponding to SUHF’s national guidelines is an advantage. If higher education teaching training is lacking, it is expected to be carried out and completed within two years.

Administrative experience in the form of course responsibility, assignments within departmental, faculty or university committees is an advantage. In addition, as the official language is Swedish and the majority of our educational programs are given in Swedish, proficiency in the Swedish language is a strong advantage.

When the university hires new teachers, the selected applicant will be the one that goes through a qualitative overall assessment, and is judged to have the best conditions to carry out and develop current tasks and contribute to the successful development of the organization.
