Missions

You will work within the framework of the PEPR SOLU-BIOD, which aims to demonstrate that the use of Nature-based Solutions makes it possible to design agri-food systems that are less dependent on pesticides, sustainably manage soil fertility, more resilient to climate change, and offer co-benefits for biodiversity, farmers, and society in general.
You will be in charge of leading the Living Lab “2.Sèvres” farmer network in the Zone Atelier Plaine & Val de Sèvre, one of the 11 living labs in the national SOLU-BIOD network. This will involve deploying a transdisciplinary approach consisting of implementing and evaluating nature-based solutions using a range of indicators to be designed. You will also act as the link between the Living Lab “2.Sèvres” and the PEPR SOLU-BIOD.

Activities

The activities of the recruited person are divided into three parts:
1- Animation of the Living Lab 2. Sèvres:
– Follow the implementation of experiments by the Living Lab’s partner farmers; document them and carry out biodiversity monitoring (including pests) and ecosystem functions as well as surveys on agricultural practices in order to evaluate the effects of Nature-based Solutions on production, income, biodiversity, etc.

2- Link with the PEPR Solubiod:
– Ensure links with the Living Lab 2.Sèvres unit and researchers,
– Participate in PEPR meetings (face-to-face and videoconference) and represent the Living Lab at PEPR Solubiod events.

3- Organization of an animation around Nature-based Solutions:
Plan and organize cycles of reflection around the implementation of Nature-based Solutions in agroecology in conjunction with the Living Lab 2. Sèvres Core Team (composed of 5 researchers).

SKILLS

• BAC+3 to BAC+5 level diploma required in the fields of ecology, agroecology, agronomy, or the environment.
• Mastery of written and oral communication tools.
• Experience in project management would be a plus
• GIS skills, semi-structured interviews
• Good interpersonal skills in line with the target audiences.
• Aptitude for teamwork with good communication skills.
• Be organized and autonomous
• Know how to inform and report on your activity.
• English language: B1 to B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Work context

The Chizé Center for Biological Studies (CEBC – UMR7372 & USC1339) is located in the south of Deux Sèvres, near the city of Niort (http://www.cebc.cnrs.fr/). The missions of the recruited person are part of the research program of the Resilience team which addresses the ‘Food-Agriculture-Biodiversity-Health’ nexus. This program is carried out in the Zone Atelier Plaine & Val de Sèvre (https://za-plaineetvaldesevre.com/), a research infrastructure covering an agricultural territory of 450km² with approximately 176,000 inhabitants spread over 33 municipalities. We offer quality infrastructure and equipment as well as a multidisciplinary working environment.
The person will be recruited at the CNRS and will be welcomed in the Resilience team of the Center for Biological Studies of Chizé,
a laboratory located in the south of Deux Sèvres, near the city of Niort (http://www.cebc.cnrs.fr/). The Resilience team pilots the Zone Atelier Plaine & Val de Sèvre (https://za-plaineetvaldesevre.com/) on which it develops research with these partners to understand and promote the agroecology and food transition by mobilizing nature-based solutions.
You will work under the supervision of Sabrina Gaba, Research Director at INRAE, in collaboration with Vincent Bretagnolle, Research Director at CNRS, Stéphane Couture, Researcher at INRAE, Anne-Lise Boixel, Research Engineer at INRAE ​​and Nicolas Benvegnu, Research Professor at Medialab. You will be working closely with Romain Bonnet, INRAE ​​Research Engineer in charge of relations with farmers in the Plaine & Val de Sèvre Workshop Zone. You will also be collaborating with the research partners of the SOLU-BIOD project as well as non-academic partners (entrepreneurs, members of associations and NGOs).
This position is located in a sector covered by the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST) and therefore requires, in accordance with regulations, that your arrival be authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Constraints and risks

• Position based at the Centre d’Etudes Biologiques de Chizé (Deux-Sèvres).
• Position not teleworking
• Travel in the field in an administrative vehicle (driver’s license for 2 years), and if necessary, travel with a personal vehicle.
• Possibility of accommodation on site (CNRS-Chizé) for a few days, while finding accommodation nearby (accommodation shared between the different fixed-term contracts can be found at very reasonable prices in this area).
• Personal vehicle essential given the relative isolation of the laboratory
• On-site catering (self-service) at midday.
• Compliance with mandatory field instructions as well as the GDPR.
