Actors, processes, and conceptual shifts in literary and visual translation in the sixteenth century,” directed by Prof. Dr. Johannes Bartuschat and coordinated by Dr. Giovanna Targia, is dedicated to the history and theory of translating art literature, particularly in the Italian Renaissance. Reflecting on the relationships between text and image, literature and the visual arts, it examines the translations of texts on visual art in 16th-century Italy in relation to the literature and cultural life of the era.

- Translations of works of fine art from Greco-Roman antiquity;
- Art discourse in 16th-century travel literature and the role of translation.
- the importance of translating source texts in modern art history.
Doctoral students participate in the research group’s regular internal meetings and activities, as well as in the publication and dissemination of results. They are expected to be willing to work in teams and participate in national and international conferences.
